Apple Stealth Safari iTunes Dubious "Upgrade"

News.com reported ("Apple pushes Safari on Windows via iTunes updater") Apple's sneaky attempt to increase it's Safari web browser Windows install base. It accomplished this by adding Safari as as a default component of the iTunes software update.

 (Apple)

I think this stealth attempt to add unrequested software as a blatant abuse of the trust between Apple and it's customers.

Airport Extreme + USB Hard drive (+ patience) == poor mans Time Capsule

Last weekends trip to Kansas City ended successfully. After convincing miss Heather that yes indeed we needed a new router I picked up a new Airport Extreme (802.11 N) router. Despite wanting this router for many months, my patience was rewarded. Instead of "having" to buy a Time Capsule (which even with the student discount is 270 odd US$), last weeks firmware update for Airport Extremes allowed Time Machine to work with them.

Now only if terabyte hard drives were more affordable...

Upgraded iTunes and almost got Safari

So, yesterday I installed an upgrade of iTunes and QuickTime (7.6.1.9) for Windows. When I upgrade a software I usually do not read carefully the instructions and often I just click the "install" button without any glimpse. But this time I did stop one moment before I pressed the install button. What is that? Safari?? What has Safari to do with this upgrade. One thing is that Apple have bundled QuickTime and iTunes..thats old stuff and discussed a lot. But now Apple just goes on with this bundle-strategy and use their upgrade mechanism to also install other products. This time it is Safari!
