Apple TV 2.0.1

appletv.jpgApple has shipped the first update since it released V 2.0.  Most likely this is just a bug fix but I will go and update my Apple TV and see if I notice any changes.

10.5.3: Apple, Fix Exposé Keybindings!

Apple Seeds First 10.5.3 Build

Looks like Apple's been busy. Really, to make me happy Apple would only have to fix one single thing: Exposé's delicate preferences.

Since 10.5.1 WoW eats my Expose preferences if I run it full screen. I play a 'lock so I switch between Full Screen and Windowed frequently. Basically, if I run WoW in full screen, it takes over my function keys and when it releases them back to the system Leopard totally forgets what I had bound to them. Like woah.

XDD

Fruity-Nutty Oatmeal (Take Two)

A while ago I made a recipe for oatmeal that contained apples, cranberries and raisins. It was tasty, but my husband wasn't overly impressed and I thought that we could improve upon the base recipe.

What do you use: OS X, Vista or Linux?

For all users using shiny apple Macs, there is a little bit of nasty news. There was a contest organized, named PWN 2 OWN by the organizers of the CanSecWest security conference. It asked the attendees to show off their hacking skills against Vista SP1 (fujitsu laptop), Leopard 10.5.2 (Macbook Air, and Ubuntu 7.10 (VAIO). The first hacker to take down any of the three systems would get a cash prize of $20,000 along with the victimized laptop. Nobody managed to pull down any of the systems on the first day, as for the first day contestants were told to use only network based attacks. The second day, they were allowed to use web and email based attacks.

Fishing Stories - the one that got away, sort of.

It's been awhile and I'd hoped to post more on our Alaska AK trip. Cropping photos is a learning experience and let's say, it's taken some time. One story has no photos. Here goes.

We fished on the Russian River on the Kenai Peninsula in AK. It is a snow melt river that runs fast and clear; the bottom is comprised of rocks, rocks, rocks; water and air temps were about 40 degrees. (The referenced photo is about 1/2 mile downstream from our location - we were in mid-thigh depth water.)

Learning new things

Today I went to the Apple store for my podcast lesson. I had been planning this for a couple of weeks but I just kept rescheduling due to all sorts of interruptions in my routine. I have discovered that I really do like my routine during these weeks of nonroutine.

The lesson with Garageband went well, and I found out it's not as simple as some have made it out to be. I am going to have to practice with Garageband to get comfortable. The young man who worked with me on the lesson showed me a great microphone that I think my students will enjoy working with too. It's called a Snowball, and it looks much like the microphones used for radio. I bought one and will work with it for a few weeks and then return to learn the next step in podcasting.
