Michael Dell is still struggling to reclaim his company’s former glory, and the latest cutbacks show he still has a long way to go. Dell (DELL) said Monday that it will close an Austin, Texas plant that makes desktop PCs. It's just the latest step in a plan management laid out nearly a year ago, in which the company plans to shed 8,300 workers and save $3 billion in costs. The remarkable thing about Dell's announcement isn't the simple shuttering of a U.S. manufacturing facility – that sort of thing is happening across the country every day. It's how precipitously Dell has fallen. |

Lance highlights a problem that needs to be dealt with by all Apple aficionados. Broadly speaking, Apple are a company that make amazing new products which will be released soon. As a result there is a lively ecosystem of rumour sites which offer up various advice about which products to buy when and why. |

Astroturfing. What a concept. It used to mean that green plastic stuff that people put in place of lawns in the 60's. But now? It refers to a disturbing trend in the web. It's how you target market the American Presidency to a foolish proletariat who doesn't know any better isn't it? And, thanks to the web, and things like the bubble sort, it's pretty easy for a guy like Axelrod to work up a whole bunch of support subliminally, huh? |
