An Apple and telecom business analysis

This article is an excellent analysis of the telecom and parenthetically the computer industry, and what makes Apple different. Something that resonated for me, amongst the business methodology information, was the quote "[Apple] owners almost find themselves surprised to own an Apple" and immediately fall in love with it. :-)

In Flames

Just listened to their newest album yesterday, which is kind of sad considering they're probably my favorite band as of now. The album, titled 'A Sense of Purpose', is just as good as everything else they've come out with in the past. They don't change themselves, or 'try something new' like a lot of other bands seem to do. They found their style long ago and stuck with it. And considering they've been making music since 1990, they've gotta be doing something right.

Dude, you're getting a MAC! Apple worth quadruple Dell’s market value!

Apple now worth quadruple Dell’s market valueBC128189-79A2-4E8C-A9A9-6FB08FF7487B.jpgOn October 6, 1997, in response to the question of what he'd do if he was in charge of Apple Computer, Dell founder and then CEO Michael Dell stood before a crowd of several thousand IT executives and answered flippantly, "What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders."

Same-day Movie Downloads: Good News for ISPs?

Broadband service providers looking for ways to upsell higher-speed (more expensive) connections now have the perfect come-on: same-day downloads on Apple’s iTunes store from most of the major Hollywood studios. While the news doesn’t cover rentals, it's good enough. Others, like VUDU, are already offering similar same-day download services.

Migration Plans

I type this post through an Apple (wired) keyboard hooked to a 1st Gen MacBook. I've been severely disappointed in the quality of the MacBook (at least mine, anyway), when compared to the 5th Gen iMac I had before it. I've pretty quickly outgrown this machine. Given that later this month I graduate high school, I've managed to get my parents to agree in buying me a MacBook Pro for college (which starts in Fall).

So the evil twin of the Mac has been created...

Engadet has reviewed it here, and here's a summary of their findings:

• The graphics card appears to be an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, but it doesn't show up in ASP, so we have to confirm. Psystar's store says it's supposed to be a 256MB card, but we have 512MB -- strange.

• It's LOUD. Crazy loud. OS X doesn't seem to interface with the fan controller, so it runs at full tilt all the time. It doesn't really come across on the video, but it's loud enough so that it's hard to talk on the phone when the machine is running. There's no way we could deal with this thing on a daily basis.
