Plastic Bag Yarn, Leftover Pizza, and Temporarily Knowing a Word That My Older Brother Does Not

That just about sums up my Friday evening thus far. Other than some reading time. And, you know, breathing and all of that jazz.

Plastic bag yarn portion- I have wanted to do this for a while, and I did so today. Actually, I still am doing it- I just stopped in order to write this post. Making yarn out of grocery store bags, that is. I have a nice-sized ball of plastic bag yarn already, and only three bags have been transformed. Ah, transformed, such a magnificent way to describe the meticulous task. I love to transform things, and will most likely be knitting this particular transformation into a bag. If it is strong enough, I will use it to carry books back and forth from the library.

Common Myths for the Macintosh

David Alison's Blog: Common Myths for the Macintosh: ""

This is an excellent post debunking several Apple myths, from the one-button mouse myth (not true since 1999!) to the higher cost of Apple. Many are either outdated, or not true.

I was surprised, after hearing how mouse-centric Macs are, that applications are full of keyboard shortcuts, with many of them standardized. Macs use not two, but three different control keys and an assortment of function keys, often used for user-programmed keyboard macros. You of course can still use the mouse and menus plenty when you want to.

Safari

Brand: Character and Reputation

The June 2008 Fast Company cover story describes how Microsoft plans to lay Apple down through the creative strategies of Alex Bogusky (Crispin Porter + Bogusky) who sort of resembles the "Hi, I'm a Mac" guy in Apple's commercial spots. One point the author, Danielle Sacks, makes is that Apple has effectively re-branded Microsoft.

That point is highly significant. We need to ponder it because it has implications for all of us.

It's important to control one's brand.

We rise and fall on the opinions and experiences others have of us. The same is true with companies and organizations.

If Steve Jobs is Satan, I'm Glad I'm a Sinner.

I have been a devoted PC fan since computers were introduced to me in 1993. My father fancied himself a computer genius and was fascinated with a little box he could toss wires and large bills into. I, on the other hand, was fascinated by Reading Rabbit.
