Top 5 on Friday

Making up my own this week as the Mistress is taking a needed break.

Go on scramble mode in whatever music device/software you use (iPod, Other Mp3 player, iTunes, Windows Media Player)...what are the first five songs that are played? (This has probably been done several times but cut me some slack...I'm the substitute teacher)

1. Eight Easy Steps - Alanis Morrisette

2. Eat That Question - Frank Zappa

3. Day of The Eagle - Robin Trower

4. Give Me Some Time - Maktub

5. Kill The King - Rainbow

ok...so my library was in a Rock mood....

Why people like Apple

This is an interesting article analysing business plans and methods of a number of example businesses in terms of Michael Eugene Porter's "Five Forces" theory. Core in this is how the nature of distribution channels has changed, and what Apple does right.

Why do I love Apple, despite all peer pressure and conventional wisdom? They understand that superior products kill three porter birds with one stone. They eliminate substitutes, increase development costs (and therefore reduce new entry threats) and decrease supplier power. Locking consumers into a closed system only gets you one, and pisses your revenue source off at the same time.

Confessions Comes to an End

As I said in a previous blog, today is the last day of updates until the 16th of May. I'll be ceasing all updates on this blog from here on out as I move over to an actual URL and a self-managed blog site.

I've had a lot of fun on Wordpress and with the community, talking to people about Apple products, and giving updates on my experiences with my Macbook. This will continue on the new site, but I'll also be introducing a day dedicated specifically to tips, with plans to have a Friday news wrap up on things I've found interesting and relevant to the general Apple community at large. I will still maintain a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule on the new site.

Using Aperture to update Flickr.com

Are you using a Mac to work with your digital images? Well, then I hope you are using apple aperture to manage, store and edit your shots. In my opinion there isn't a single piece of software that does the job better. A professional piece of kit with the ease of use of iphoto. Simply speaking it is iphoto, just made better. It is enhanced with great features that, once used, you don't want to miss ever again.

Johnny Appleseed's, Virginia

NO idea what town I'm in... but it's in Virginia.

I'm currently sitting in a cute Cracker Barrel-like restaurant called Johnny Appleseed's, eating a cheap steak dinner with green beans and potatoes. The best part of the meal was the powdered sugar-covered fritters they gave me when I first arrived. Up until two minutes ago, I was the only customer in the restaurant, which I always find delightful. Or awkward, depending on how you're treated.

Blu-Ray sales not helped by HD DVD death

New reports from ABI Research and NPD Group state that the death of HD DVD and the end to the format war has not helped Blu-Ray player sales, and that Blu-Ray is looking at an uphill battle in its efforts to entrench itself in coonsumer's living rooms.

Top-paid CEOs: Steve Jobs drops from No. 1 to No. 120

Having topped Forbes' list of the U.S.'s highest-paid CEOs last year with a total compensation of $646 million -- thanks almost entirely to restricted stock grants that vested in 2006 -- Apple's (AAPL) $1-a-year CEO dropped to No. 120 this year. Total 2007 compensation: a mere $14.6 million.
