Apple Support Delaurus Conspiracy

After my iPod video broke conveniently outside of its warranty, I spent a lot of time on the phone with apple customer supports. I noticed either a large coincidence or some sort of one name conspiracy. Due to their unorganized call center, I was transferred to several departments. I talked to a couple of male customer service repersentitives - and three females.

Each female I talked to (clearly different people) told me their name was Delaurus. This seems highly impossible to me, as Delaurus is an uncommon name - and 3 out of the 3 women I spoke to within 20 minutes shared that name.

Whats going on here?

Meet The New iPod

ipodI have just received my new iPod.  A gigantic iPod Classic 160Gb.  I'll enough space to put 60 days of continuous music!  I intend to use it to its fullest capability.  It is charging as I am writing this. I'll let it fully charge for 4 hours before I put entertainment on it.  I can't wait to try it out.  What will be the first thing I listen on it?  I haven't decided yet.  It is going to take me a little while to get all the music I want on the 'Pod.  I think I'll enjoy it deciding what goes in and uploading to the iPod.  I will enjoy listenning to the music.

Surfing the web from the couch

Have you ever found yourself wanting to join the family in the living room but you can't because you are tied to your office computer?

If your answer is "yes," then you have two solutions: 1. use your laptop.  Unfortunately, they get hot.  2. Setup an all-in-one computer, such as the iMac, on your living room coffee table.

I moved last week and during the move, I became one computer richer as I now have access to my fiance's 20 inch iMac.  As we only have one desk with room for one computer (mine right now), we needed a place for her iMac.  The only other flat surface with easy access to an outlet was the coffee table.

Going from Leopard to Tiger

Leopard is over 6 months old now, which I suppose means it should look like this. After half a year of use, I thought I would take a look at what features have become integral to my workflow. So I got out my old iBook with Tiger installed and booted it up, and I went about my daily computer activities to see what I missed.

The Look

Tiger is a great looking OS, but it just can't compare to the sleekness of Leopard. Apple knows enough about what it's doing to make every consecutive release make its predecessor look dull and outdated. The menu bar, the dock, and the way the windows are: it's a huge overhaul, and I missed it.

Apple's "Other" Tech Support Number

Instead of calling Apple Computer's Technical support number:

1-800-275-2273

I mistakenly dialed:

1-800-278-2273

...and, apparently, there are "Hot and Horny Singles" just waiting to take my call. At first I thought it was a new Apple marketing campaign. But, fortunately (or, unfortunately?) that was not the case.

LOL.

Who Will Control Your Digital Media?

The web stopped being the exclusive hangout of freaks and geeks (and I use those terms lovingly) long ago. During the bubble years it turned into a place of commerce and information; now it's turning into a source of entertainment and collaboration. The shift has been easy to see, but what is still unclear is if the digital home will be a consumer-controlled environment or a carrier-controlled one.
