Today, in yet another sign that open networks are coming to the US wireless world, Nokia announced it will purchase the remaining stock it doesn't own in Symbian and then migrate the solution to an "Open" platform. First question: why are they doing this? According to ABI Research vice president Stuart Carlaw: "There has been financial pressure on Nokia to move in this direction at some point. The sheer economics of the number of devices it ships with the OS versus the value it gets out of its historic shareholding clearly indicated that such a `rescue' was inevitable at some point." |

With all the news about Bill Gates retiring and the new iPhone coming out I found it very interesting to watch this highlight video from last years D5. It was May 30th 2007, a month before the original iPhone was released. Watching the video I can't tell if behind closed doors they are truly friends or really loathe one another. What do you think? |

The Consumerist (read more below) reports on the 10 best and worst reputations in corporate America. As I looked at Google (best) and Halliburton (worst), my thoughts turned to Brand Tags, a cool site that lets big brands know what their brands mean. As is often stated: companies don't own brands, consumers do. That is, people will chose what a brand means and there is little that a company can say to change that image (often, it is up to what they do). |

Here is a recap of AAPL. I still think it heads down, but tomorrow should be interesting since RIMM reports their earnings. I think RIMM reporting will affect AAPL, we could see AAPL test the 162 level soon, they are in a confirmed down trend, so i will keep my short sell. |

Vista has not accomplished its expectations. Albeit more than 140 million copies sold, that only represents around 13% of the installed base. And if you take into account that Vista has been around since november 2006 and an average lifespan of five years for any computer, only because of natural growth that figure should be around 20%. What's happening? When a company has such a great market share as Microsoft, and a killer and omnipresent product like Windows, it wouldn't be fair to say that those figures mean trouble. Not really, only unfulfiled expectations, that's all. |
