Axel Springer AG, one of Europe’s largest newspaper publishers, with 10,000 employees and more than 150 papers in 30 countries, including its flagship Die Welt, announced on Friday that it is switching its entire operation from PCs to Macs.

In a YouTube video, posted below the fold, CEO Mathias Döpfner lists four reasons for the change:

Time machine in Leopard

Tried the backing up facility in OSX Leopard today for the first time and I have to say I am impressed. It looks great and works a treat too. I wish I had had the cash to buy Leopard sooner.

I got a bit confused with the new way of working with the networking features and I had trouble with getting the applications over from the old machine, or at least until I made use of the Migration assistant wich made it as easy as pie to move things.

Walt Mossberg's Tips for Switching to Mac

About Walt
Walt Mossberg writes two columns, and edits a third, for The Wall Street Journal. He also publishes periodic interviews for the Journal, and occasional blog posts on this site. With Kara Swisher, he co-produces and co-hosts D: All Things Digital, a major high-tech and media conference.

Walt Mossberg has written an article laying out his personal quick tips for anyone considering switching from Windows to the Mac. It is a measured and useful article and I recommend it to anyone thinking of switching.

Paul Thurrott Turns into A 13-Year-Old

In Windows Weekly 66, Paul Thurrott turns into a whiny 13-year-old. Thurrott feels that he is the one to defend Microsoft against some mainstream journalists. The argument is valid, but essentially Thurrott debunked himself for not being a Microsoft (original) Defender (not to be confused with Microsoft Defender, the anti-spyware software).

Close to the 18 minute mark of the podcast (note to Leo Laporte: "netcast" term is lame), Thurrott mentions that with 1 terabyte hard drive and 4GB RAM, it is essentially OK to have "bloated software" just because the resources is there. Gee, that sounds like Thurrott echoing Bill Gates.

Inconsequential Blabbing

Well I managed to move out of the house I owned and rebuilt over the course of four and a half years.  You know, the first time I received an offer, tears formed in my eyes, but I knew it had to be done and moved forward.  Then that sale fell through, then the second sale fell through, and by the time of the third sale, I was so sick of the entire process, I never thought I'd be rid of the place.  During the sale that actually went through, there were numerous requests and addendums and all kinds of annoying crap that went on.  In addition, I had rented an apartment and begun moving stuff there I wanted to keep.  I needed to organize the stuff I did not want to keep in order to have a sale and get rid of it all.  During that week, I got to the point where I was so sick of it all,

ARDAgent.app Vulnerability Analysis

Apple recently released Mac OS X 10.5.4 with accompanying security updates for 25 vulnerabilities.  Notably absent, however, is a fix for the recently brouhaha'd ARDAgent.app local privilege escalation vulnerability.  The exploit is extremely simple and unfortunately, it seems that the fix is not; otherwise Apple would have fixed it in this batch.  For more information on the exploit including temporary fixes and workarounds to protect yourself until Apple fixes this vulnerability, see the full write-up at MacShadows.com.

Lamentable

"The iTunes Store is not available in your country yet", que pinche coraje!!!!!!!!!!

Why Dell, HP and the other PC manufacturers are scared

In the past week, there have been a slew of articles discussing the huge growth in Apple's share of the overall computer market.  One article discussed how nearly 8% of computers now in use are Apples, which is a nearly 32% jump in a year and another article here.  Apple's notebook sales jumped 61% in a year.  Another article discussed how 14% of all
